103 : Peter Snaddon

Episode 103 : Pipers’ Persuasion made a Zoom call on Peter Snaddon who has been a member of the RSPBA Adjudicators Panel since 1982 and is a piping and ensemble adjudicator.
During his teenage years, he was accepted as a private pupil by Captain John A MacLellan under whom he studied piobaireachd and light music. Ronald McCallum of Inveraray and Jimmy Young also had considerable influence on his piping development.
Peter has other musical interests. In 1970, he was accepted into the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama as a brass student specialising in bass tuba. In 1974, Peter was appointed Pipe Major of the Grade 1 153 (Highland) Regiment, Royal Corps of Transport, Pipes and Drums and also during the 1970s, competed as principal tuba with the Championship Section Edinburgh City Brass Band. He claims to be the only Pipe Major to have been registered legally with two Grade 1 bands at the same time!
In 1991, he was appointed by the Army School of Bagpipe Music and Highland Drumming as Chief Instructor to the Territorial Army. For his services, he was awarded the Queen’s Volunteer Reserves Medal in the 2000 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
