Episode 17 – Our first episode of 2011 took Pipers’ Persuasion to the home of Colin MacLellan. The son of Captain John MacLellan, Colin has led a life immersed in the music of the Great Highland Bagpipe from his formative years. What hasn’t Colin MacLellan done in piping? His accomplishments are perhaps too numerous to mention, but include (to list a just few) winning the Gold Medal at both Oban and Inverness, three times Canadian solo piping champion, twice North American solo piping champion, Grade 2 Champion of Champions as Pipe Major of Lothian & Borders Police Pipe Band, external examiner to the BA (Scottish Music) at the RSAMD and the SQA, president of the Competing Pipers’ Association as well as instructing at Edinburgh Acadamy, adjudicating and reedmaking. Colin’s story is extremely interesting and yet another ‘must see’ in the Pipers’ Persuasion series.
