It was only a matter of two weeks ago in the beer tent at the European Pipe Band Championships in Belfast when Allan and Scott were discussing which drummers should be interviewed for Pipers’ Persuasion and two-time World Solo Drumming Champion Bobby Rea’s name amongst others was up top of the list. Here we are just a short time later and deeply saddened to hear of Bobby’s passing on the eve of the 2010 World Pipe Band Championships. As leading drummer of the Pipes & Drums of the Royal Ulster Constabulary and Ravara Pipe Band, Bobby won many a championship with his corps and influenced a great many successful drummers to come from the province of Ulster and beyond. Bobby is a great loss to the pipe band community and our thoughts are with his family and friends.
